Filed under: History — Rook House @ 9:26 pm

The Herceg Novi Blitz Tournament of 1970 was the greatest speed tournament of the 20th century. Four world champions competed in the tournament and Bobby Fischer finished 4 ½ points ahead of the second place finisher, Mikhail Tal.

Fischer also dominated the Soviet players, 8 ½ – 1 ½, soundly defeating Tal, Tigran Petrosian and Vasily Smyslov, 6-0; breaking even with Viktor Korchnoi; and defeating David Bronstein with a win and draw. According to one report, Fischer spent no more than 2 ½ minutes on any game.
